Our data centres, uniquely enable agility in power, cooling and space throughout the lifetime of the data centre. Without any interruption to operations and with significantly reduced risk, the data centre can be dialled up or down to suit your business requirements.

Your data centre can be deployed onsite and commissioned in just 16 weeks, including design, build, installation, training and handover. This, along with the flexibility to alter the power, cooling and space in the future, means the data centre planning cycle can fundamentally change. Capacity forecasting is currently applied to the useful life of the data centre, typically over 10-20 years. With Colt ftec, capacity planning can be closely aligned to business growth in 3-5 year increments. Furthermore, the useful life of the data centre can be considerably extended as the data centre flexes to future requirements.

We’ll work with you to ensure your data centre is an absolute fit for your business need, so you can be confident of getting the right level of capacity and power when and where you need it. What’s more, because we offer data centre space in a range of user-friendly blocks with a range of options, you’re free to create your own customised facility and build it from the ground up. Choose from 125, 250, 375 and 500 square metre units or multiples thereof. Then, either host them on your own premises, or at a Colt site as a data centre as a service.

Data Centres can be dual-stacked without the need for a mezzanine floor added to the shell building so you can maximise your footprint, while tiering options are available to suit your need and budget.

When it comes to cost-effectiveness, our Data Centres really excel. An industry-leading Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.21 makes them 40% more economical than traditional builds. Because you can switch off power to unused blocks, you can scale down as well as up and cut your operational expenditure significantly by maintaining low PUE even at low usage levels, saving millions in power costs over the lifetime of the data centre. And unlike many others, they do this using almost no water; leading the industry not just in energy efficiency but in water efficiency too.

Innovative Production – Swift Delivery

The factories in which we manufacture our Modular Data Centres have been chosen very carefully. We only work with those who have proven expertise in fields such as steel construction, data centre build expertise and other skills necessary to guarantee quality. We have ensured that there is an efficient supply-chain in place to enable components to be sourced quickly and cost-effectively for the production lines. The modular data centre, and the entire infrastructure it needs, is pre-assembled and pre-staged so as to reduce the need for on-site integration so you can be sure that it suits your needs before it even leaves the factory.

Although available in a number of specifications and with different fit-out options, the base offering of the modular data centre is manufactured to the following specifications:


  • Minimum Power density of 1,500W/m2 delivering 750kW of power per modular data centre (additional power configurations are available)
  • Fully automatic 850kVA generators at N+N redundancy
  • UPSs configured to N+N
  • 2 x 2MVA transformers
  • System availability measurement of 99.999% per annum


  • Each modular data centre has 12 Room Cooling Units capable of rejecting 750kW of heat in an N+2 configuration
  • Fresh air cooling system, with DX backup
  • Temperature kept at 24°C ± 3°C within sensor tolerance
  • Humidity level 50% ± 20% RH within sensor tolerance
  • Typically over 300 days operation per year on ‘fans only’ at 24°C

Fire control

  • High speed, Very Early Smoke Detection Alarms (VESDA) with three stage detection system (in accordance with BS6266):
  • High Sensitivity Smoke Detection in all areas, above and below floor and ceiling
  • Addressable analogue alarm system with double knock condition to initiate gas release
  • Constant pressure Pro-inert gas suppression system within technical space


  • Diverse cable routing through separate entry points into the modular data centre


  • Borer "Fusion" electronic access control system with smart card readers for greater resilience
  • High quality, high definition mini dome CCTV cameras with onboard Infra Red LED lighting allowing surveillance in light or dark conditions
